How To Coach During Gameday For Kids Baseball Leagues

By Cara Torres

The most important things for kids baseball leagues coaches nowadays is to make sure that everything goes well during gameday. This is because this is one of the experiences that not only children are looking forward to but parents as well. A single fault during a big gameday will usually signal the end of the coach's career.

When it comes to taking care of the game plans for the league games, there are lots of things that one has to take into consideration. For those who are actually volunteering or were nominated to become head coach, there are several tips that they have to bear in mind. Here are those things that they have to pay attention to.

First of all, the coach will have to decide on a playing time. Since this is the kind of serious game for children, it is important to fill out the playing time equally across all of the players. This should give the children confidence in themselves. The playing time should be be evenly distributed as well as the number of innings a child has to sit out.

It is also necessary to think about the positions for the said game. The coach has to consider who the positions will go to. It is a must to consider this thoroughly so that the children will be satisfied with it. Not only that, choosing the right child to play for the game makes it easier to achieve victory.

Remember that the parents should be the ones who know the most about the policies regarding the said issues. This means that the parents should express their affirmation to the policies one has set up for the play time and position during the game. If they know this, they do not have anything to hold against the coach when things go wrong.

There may be times when it is necessary to decide on an arsenal of signs to play with. Signs are not really important for tee ball games but it will be different for league games. There should be a sign decided beforehand when the child has to bunt, steal a base, or hit-and run.

Treat the umpires well. Just like how a coach is just a volunteer from the children's parents, the umpires are also the same. This means that the coach must treat the umpires in the same way that one will want others to treat them. What goes around comes around so better treat others with proper respect.

The parents' support are necessary for this kind of game too. Make sure that the parents are supportive and that they are positive for their children to win the game. Be sure to inform the parents not to make a comment to the umpires. More than that, they should avoid coaching to the children from the stands.

It will also help a lot if the coach maintains a level head when the kids baseball leagues start. This is because they need to have a clear head in order to see what the bigger picture is in a pressure-packed game situation. They need this so that they can make the right decisions at the right time.
