Test Taking Anxiety Treatment And Why It Should Not Be Taken For Granted

By Ida Dorsey

There are a lot of myths about test anxiety. Some say it is an in born condition. Others say that it is permanent and cannot be treated. Few even go as far as saying that students who have it cannot learn Math. These are all myths. But the existence of test anxiety is no myth. It is a fact.

Even those who do not have the condition themselves find it scary. Imagine, you will have rapid heartbeats, you can have a terrible headache, you feel like vomiting and the stuff. For a high school student, this feels terrible. Due the rising number of students who get this, things like the test taking anxiety treatment San Francisco has come to life.

It is the goal of this procedure to help students overcome their fear of exams and eventually bring back their confidence. The service is not just limited to San Francisco. Different countries have also started devising their own strategies to deal with the condition.

Keep in mind that test anxiety can be cured. It is not in born nor is it permanent. It will be gone as long as the right set of treatment is followed. Otherwise, the symptoms can progress. This is why immediacy is important. The earlier treatment is given the faster can the student improve his overall performance at school.

If parents or you decide to go on a treatment, you need to understand beforehand the cause of your condition. It is like deciding to get a gold medal on the Olympics. You need to have a full understanding on what it would take for you to achieve it. The anxiety could spring from a bad experience about exams in the past. If a kid is reprimanded in front of his classmates for getting a zero in the exam, the event will likely remain in his memory.

Another possible reason could be the burden of expectations. Parents have this tendency to be competitive. And even if their kid is not showing any interest on something, they tend to push them to do it. This creates a thick tension between the kid and the parent and will eventually develop into fear of disappointing those expectations.

Students who retain clear images of these things have the higher tendency of manifesting the symptoms for the anxiety. The more they see it, the more difficult it is for them to control their physical reactions. Treatment helps alleviate all of these things. With the guidance of the councilors, students can manage to cope with their condition. Positive mind conditioning is encouraged.

Negative images are slowly replaced with positive ones. This is not to say though that students are expected to forget their bad experience about tests. It is just that, they are taught how to take control over it. This flow of positive thoughts will eventually improve the overall performance of student both academically and emotionally.

Once symptoms start to show among your children, it is important that you take action on it immediately. The longer you allow it to rest inside the mind of your children, the stronger it becomes. The symptoms can become worse as time goes on. Early prevention is better than a late cure.
