Some Pros And Cons Of Universal Health Care

By Brooke Nash

Many people have been working to get universal health coverage into the United States. The model has been the Canadian or United Kingdom model. The idea of free health care is a strong inducement for this discussion at every level of one major political party. This is part of a list of the pros and cons of universal health care that needs to be looked at before actually taking over in the United States.

One of the pros is that this type of system is to cover almost everyone. The greatest system, currently, in the world is to be offered to all without, it is said, concern for whether they can afford it or not. The con to this, of course, is that if someone can not afford the coverage, the government is to voucher them into the system. Since the government does not have money unless it taxes the people, tax rates will have to go up.

A large portion of other countries in the world have universal coverage. The difference is that there are private insurance companies that can be purchased from for anything the government plan does not cover. They have also had to leave their country for others to get some of the life saving measures that do not have funding under their program.

A very good pro for this type of system will be, of course, the concept of saving money across the entire system. The manner in which the savings is implemented is to be studied for the procedures used. A definite con would be if this system is established after the French model of the N. I. C. E. System. A similar system, in the United States has already caused many doctors to go out of business.

A pro would be that many people who have not had the opportunity to have an insurance policy can have that piece of paper. The con would be that without the Doctors and other related professionals to administer it, the paper would be a cruel joke. The level of concern will go down as it has in all developed countries that have this system.

The United States' entry into the universal coverage field is the Affordable Care act. This also known as ObamaCare. Costs for insurance have gone up faster than advertized and quality has begun to go down. The additional taxes on medical devices will continue to deny this type of technological advances that will put many people at risk.

One of the pros, to many people, is that everyone must pay, essentially, for everyone else. In a land that cherishes liberty to seek medical attention each person needs and the freedom to follow the dictates of their own minds, this is the largest con. The pros and cons of universal health care have already been printed in the history books as a drag on that freedom and health.
